Vietnamese handicraft products became well known in the world market

Fine art handicraft products made Vietnam well know by all world markets. The European Union represents the biggest market for Vietnam handicraft products.

Since 1991 the biggest importer of Vietnam’s handicraft items was Japan. Mostly, Japan imported wooden furniture, from Vietnam each year. A commercial office said that Vietnam exports only USD 5 million worth of porcelain and ceramics to Japan each year.

Fine art handicraft articles are made mostly from raw materials available in the country with imported additional accounting only 3-5 percent. Handicraft products export and sell bring to Vietnam an income as high as 95-97%. Viet Nam's fine art handicraft items are sold in more than 50 countries. It is considered that every earning worth USD 1 million from their export provides employment and income for between 3,000-4,000 people, mostly in craft villages and the general rural areas.

It is known that each of the top-ten exports earns more than USD 100 million per year. With it earnings of USD 168 million in 1999 and almost USD 300 million last year, Vietnam become one of ten exports of fine art handicraft products.

Economists sustained that in 2005 Vietnam earned USD 1 million from the export of handicraft items, including between USD 350-400 million from wooden handicrafts and USD 250-300 million from fine art porcelain.

Vietnam exports to EU such handicrafts articles: wooden products, fine art porcelain and ceramics, bamboo and rattan products, rattan-made tables and chairs, bamboo- and rattan-made articles for interior decoration, and embroideries.

Though craft Vietnamese villages and craftsmen are well known by all world markets a government report says that Vietnamese craftsmen have not yet enough bank loans for to expand their handmade productions, and also they have no skill training or upgrade production facilities.
